Yavin er en fiktiv planet i Star Wars-universet. En av planetens måner var opprørenes base i episode IV, men i Episode Vs introtekst står det at de blir jaget vekk fra basen sin, så det er en base der bare i episode IV.

Slaget ved Yavin

Slaget ved Yavin danner utgangspunktet for kalendersystemet som benyttes i Star Wars, hvor BBY er «Before Battle of Yavin» (før slaget ved Yavin) og ABY er «After Battle of Yavin» (etter slaget ved Yavin).

Selve slaget finner sted i Episode IV: Et nytt håp etter at Prinsesse Leia blir befridd fra Dødsstjernen. Det galaktiske imperiet klarer å spore Leias flukt til Opprøreralliansens base på en av Yavin 4s måner. Opprørerne må derfor ødelegge Dødsstjernen før den rekker å bruke sin dødelige stråle for å ødelegge hele månen. Slaget ender med seier til Opprøreralliansen da Luke Skywalker klarer å sende en stråleladning mot Dødsstjernens svake punkt, den ytre enden av en kanal som leder direkte inn til den sentrale reaktoren i Dødsstjernens energisystem. Som en følge av denne ladningens ankomst i reaktoren, eksploderer reaktoren så kraftig at hele Dødsstjernen oppløses i småbiter (synliggjort i filmen tilsvarende en fyrverkeri-eksplosjon).
