Pope-Tribune

Pope-Tribune var en del av Pope automobile gruppe selskaper grunnlagt av oberst Albert Pope som produserte biler i Hagerstown, Maryland.^[1] Med en innledende pris på 650 dollar var det den billigste modellen av Pope biler.

Fabrikken ble satt opp i den gamle Crawford sykkelfabrikk og ble drevet av Harold E. Pope, oberstens sønn.

Den første Pope-Tribune, en ensylindret runabout ble introdusert i 1904. Den var utformet av Hiram Percy Maxim, sønn av sir Hiram Stevens Maxim (oppfinneren av Maxim). Den modellen som er utstilt i National Motor Museum, Beaulieu, er en tidlig modell med en sylinder og Modell II hadde en frontmontert, vertikal, én-sylindret motor (med en 4,5 tommer boring og 4 tommer slaglengde), hjulstyring, pinjong, girkasse og bakaksel med differensial.

I 1905 ble prisen på bilen redusert fra 650 til 500 dollar og en ny 12 Hk to-sylindret modell ble lagt til produksjonsprogrsmmet.

Produksjonen fortsatte frem til 1908, men da bilene hadde blitt større og dyrere. De endelige modellene, med fire-sylinder motorer, var en 16/20 Hk kostet 1 750 pund og en 30 Hk kostet 2 750 pund. Selskapet opphørte i november 1908.^[2]
