Gjøvik Skøiteklub (stiftet 1886, som Gjøvik Idrettsforening forkortet til GIF) og er den eldste skøyteklubben i Gjøvik.

Historie

Klubben ble startet i 1886, som Gjøvik Idrettsforening . De markerte seg for første gang da Henrik Lindahl ble en av de første norske mestrene i 1891, i et uoffisielt mesterskaper. Erling Olsen og Arne Østby var to gode løpere fra Gjøvik på -20 og -30-tallet. Olsen fikk en tredjeplass i NM på 5000m og Østby ble nummer 8 sammenlagt under EM i 1934. Hjalmar Andersen satte ny verdensrekord på 10.000m under NM på Gjøvik i 1952. Senere overtok Alv Gjestvang Hans Engnestangens eldgamle rekord på 500m på Gjøvik Stadion i 1956. Her gikk Gjestvang også som første nordmann under 42.0 på en norsk bane i 1959.

Til visse tider var det nær 100 deltakere på klubbløp.

Kjente løpere

  • Sverre Haugli – representerte GSK under to sesonger; -54 og -55. Han ble under denne perioden nummer to sammenlagt i NM 1954 og representerte Norge under internasjonale mesterskap.
  • Harald Hoff oppnådde en tredjeplass i jr. NM i 1962.[1]
  • Magnus Nereng, som i 1963 ble uttatt som OL-aspirant.
  • Arnulf Sunde, som oppnådde som best en 6.-plass under Vinter-OL 1976 på 500 m. Kanskje vel så imponerende var hans rad av norgesrekorder i yngre årsklasser.[2]
  • Erik Aarethun har en 11.-plass sammenlagt fra allround-NM 1971.
  • Anne Gjersem oppnådde en rekke plasseringer i flere junior-NM og medaljer i seniorklassen.
  • Olav Slinning med blant annet en 7.-plass fra allround-NM 2005, og med flere NM for juniorer på enkeltdistanser.[1]
  • Kristian Gamme Ulekleiv tok sølv i allround-NM 2018 på Jevnaker og den første siden Sverre Haugli i 1954 til å vinne en distanse under allround-NM for menn som medlem av Gjøvik SK i 2018. Deltok i OL - Beijing 2020 med 14. plass på Fellesstart og 16. plass på 1500m.

Tidligere ledere

Rolf Backe (30- og 40-tallet) og Odleif Olsen (60-tallet) var fremtredende ledere for klubben.
