«4th of July, Asbury Park (Sandy)» også kjent under «Sandy» er en sang av Bruce Springsteen fra albumet The Wild, the Innocent & the E Street Shuffle fra 1973. Den ble utgitt som singel i 1974. Sangen var også med i samleboksen Live/1975–85 (1986) og på The Essential Bruce Springsteen (2003).

Originalversjonen

Springsteen skrev sangen i midten av 1973. I sangen synger Springsteen henvendt til sin kjæreste, Sandy. I boka Songs (1998) forteller Springsteen at han skrev sangen som et farvel til sin adopterte hjemby Asbury Park, og det livet han hadde levd der. Sandy i sangteksten er en blanding av flere jenter han kjente på New Jersey-kysten.[1]

I tillegg til Springsteen medvirket Clarence Clemons, Danny Federici, Garry Tallent, Vini Lopez, David Sancious samt Suki Lahav som var alene som kordame.

Coverversjoner

The Hollies spilte inn sangen som singel under tittelen «Sandy» i 1975. Den ble også inkludert på albumet Another Night (1975). I Ulf Lundells svenske versjon med tittelen «Sanna, (Nyårsafton Åre 1983 (Sandy))» synger Lundell henvendt til sin da fem år gamle datter Sanna Lundell. Handlingen foregår nyttårsaften i motsetning til i originalversjoen der handlingen foregår på den amerikanske uavhengighetsdagen.

Ben E. King inkluderte sangen på sitt hyllestalbum til Bruce Springsteen i 1997.
