Aleksandr Karlovitsj Beggrov (17. desember 1841–14. april 1914) var ein russisk landskaps- og maritim kunstnar av tysk-baltisk opphav.[1] Han er kjend for landskapsmåleri av havet og St. Petersburg.

Liv

Alexander Beggrov var fødd i St. Petersburg som son av Karl Beggrov (Beggrow), ein tysk målar som hadde heile karrieren sin i Russland. Han bestemte seg for å bli marineoffiser, og i 1863 gjekk han inn i marinen. I 1871-1872 deltok han i ei reise rundt verda. I 1868, medan han framleis var marineoffiser, starta han kunststudiane sine under tilsyn av Aleksej Bogoljubov.[2] In 1873 flytta Bogoljubov til Frankrike, og Beggrov, som ønskte å fortsetja kunststudia sine, blei elev ved Royal Academy of Arts, der han studerte under Mikhail Klodt i eit år.[3][4] I 1874 pensjonerte han seg frå marinen og flytta til Paris, der han hovudsakleg fortsette å jobba under leiing av Bogoljubov. Han blei òg kjend med russiske kunstnarar i Frankrike, mellom anna Ilja Repin.

I 1875 vende Beggrov tilbake til St. Petersburg, og i 1878 blei han med i Peredvizjniki-rørsla. I 1879 reiste han sjøvegen til Hellas, og derfrå til Frankrike, der han budde i to år. Deretter flytta Aleksandr Beggrov tilbake til Russland og busette seg i Gatsjina. I 1903 døydde kona hans. Dei siste åra av livet sitt var Beggrov dødssjuk. I august 1914 tok han sitt eige liv.[4]
