Bristol Rovers FC is een Engelse voetbalclub uit Bristol en speelt zijn wedstrijden in het Memorial Stadium. De club komt uit in de League One.

Geschiedenis

De club werd in 1883 gesticht als The Black Arabs, in 1897 werd de huidige naam Bristol Rovers aangenomen. In het jaar 1920 werd de club lid van de Football League en is, met uitzondering van het seizoen 2014/15, toen Bristol Rovers in de National League uitkwamen, altijd actief gebleven in de Football League.

De Rovers speelden nog nooit in de hoogste klasse, het beste resultaat is de zevende plaats in de Second Division in het seizoen 1990/91. In totaal heeft Bristol Rovers negentien seizoenen in de tweede klasse van Engeland gespeeld.

De grootste rivaal van Bristol Rovers is stadsgenoot Bristol City. Daarnaast is ook Swindon Town een grote rivaal.

In het seizoen 2015-16 eindigde Bristol Rovers als derde in de League Two, waardoor de club promotie afdwong naar de League One, samen met Northampton Town en Oxford United.[1] Dit werd de tweede promotie op rij voor de club. In het seizoen 2014-15 werd namelijk de tweede plaats behaald in de Conference National, wat recht gaf op deelname aan de play-offs om promotie. In deze nacompetitie werd over twee wedstrijden eerst afgerekend met Forest Green Rovers, om vervolgens op Wembley te winnen van Grimsby Town.[2]
