Lai (Bahasa Cina: trad. 萊, simp. 莱, pin. Lái) adalah negeri Dongyi purba terletak di mananya kini Provinsi Shandong timur, dicatat dalam Buku Xia. Tang Shanchun (唐善纯) mempercayai lai bermakna "gunung" dalam bahasa Kantonis lama,[1] sedangkan Yue Jue Shu (越絕書) berkata lai bermakna "hutan belantara".[2]

Sejarah

Lai merupakan musuh tradisi Negeri Qi ke barat. Sebaik sahaja Jiang Ziya, pemerintah pertama Qi, enfeoffed pada Qi, keadaan Lai menyerang modal di Yingqiu. Pada tahun 567 SM, Lai menyerang Qi tetapi tegas dikalahkan oleh Duke Ling Qi, dan terakhir Furou pemerintah, Gong Duke daripada Lai, telah dibunuh.[3][4] Lai was a large state, and Qi more than doubled in size after annexing Lai.[3][5][6] Rakyat telah dipindahkan ke Laiwu, di mana Mencius menggelar mereka Qídōng yěrén (t 齊東野人, s 齐东野人), "para petani dari timur Qi".
