ISCII

ISCII (bahasa Inggeris: Indian Script Code for Information Interchange, "Kod Skrip Pertukaran Maklumat India") ialah sejenis skema pengekodan bagi pemaparan pelbagai abjad suku kata berketurunan Brahmi yang tertentu di India, iaitu tulisan Assam, Benggala, Devanagari, Gujarat, Gurmukhi, Kannada, Malayalam, Oriya, Tamil, dan Telugu.

Sistem abjad keturunan Brahmi ini biarpun berbeza-beza bentuk hurufnya namun amat serupa dari segi struktur. Daripada itu, ISCII mengekodkan huruf-huruf yang sama nilai fonetik dari tulisan berlainan di titik kod yang sama. Contohnya, kod ISCII 0xB3 0xDB melambangkan [ki], dipaparkan menjadi कि dalam tulisan Devanagari, ਕਿ dalam tulisan Gurmukhi, dan கி dalam tulisan Tamil. Dalam erti kata lain, semua abjad India tersebut berkongsi satu blok yang mengisi 128 bit teratas dalam sistem pengekodan 8-bit ini, manakala 18 bit terbawah pula diisi aksara-aksara Rumi asas berasaskan ASCII.

Sistem tulisannya boleh dipilih secara penandaan (seperti memilih muka taip) ketika menggunakan perisian pemproses kata atau perisian seumpama yang menggunakan format teks kaya. ISCII membolehkan transliterasi mudah dari abjad ke abjad lain, namun ada kelemahan mencukupi yang membantutkan kemampuan ISCII, misalnya sesetengah aksara dalam suatu abjad, tiada padanan dalam abjad-abjad lain.

ISCII tidak begitu laris digunakan selain di institusi kerajaan tertentu, apatah lagi kini diganti oleh Unicode yang menggunakan blok-blok berasingan bagi setiap sistem tulisan India, di samping banyak mengekalkan susunan ISCII dalam setiap blok.
