Popkultūra

Miuziklų reklama Manhatano Teatrų kvartale. Brodvėjaus teatras, kaip ir Holivudo kinas, padarė didelę įtaką, kad susidarytų dabartinė popkultūra.

Popkultūra, arba populiarioji kultūra,[1] masinė kultūra[2] – tam tikru laikotarpiu visuomenėje vyraujančių arba įsigalėjusių papročių, tikėjimų ir objektų visuma. Popkultūra taip pat aprėpia veiklas ir išgyvenimus, atsirandančius iš sąveikos su šiais vyraujančiais objektais. Pagrindinė popkultūros varomoji jėga yra masinis patrauklumas, kuris, anot kultūrologo T. Adorno, kyla iš „kultūrinės industrijos“.[3]

Popkultūra, kaip idėjų rinkinys, šiais laikais labai paveikta žiniasklaidos, popkultūra persmelkia žmonių kasdienybę, tokiu būdu galėdama padaryti įtaką žmogaus požiūriui į tam tikras temas.[4] Vis dėlto esama keleto popkultūros apibrėžimų,[5] todėl popkultūra yra reiškinių ir objektų visuma, kurią skirtingi žmonės įvairiuose kontekstuose gali apibrėžti skirtingai, prieštaringai.[6] Paprastai popkultūra priešinama su kitomis kultūros formomis, pavyzdžiui, su liaudiška kultūra, darbininkijos arba aukštąja kultūra, taip pat popkultūra gali būti nagrinėjama akademiškai, taikant psichoanalizės, struktūralizmo, postmodernizmo ir kitus principus. Pagrindinės popkultūros kategorijos: pramogos (taip pat kinas, muzika, televizija ir vaizdo žaidimai), sportas, naujienos (pavyzdžiui, naujienose pateikiami žmonės ir vietovės), politika, mada, technologijos ir slengas.[7]
