Dopo ol paes de Longaron al va dent in Val Beluna e al bagna la cittaa de Belun; on quaj chilometer dopo Felter al va dent in de la provincia de Trevis, al gira inver sudest e al diventa on fiumm de pianura. Dopo ca l'ha bagnaa la citaa de San Donaa al sa buta dent in del Mar Adriatich, dopo 220 km de corsa, arent al pòrt de Cortelàsc.
El fiumm al drena on basin imbrìfer de 4.130 km².
El Piav al g'ha avuu granda importanza storega in de la Prima guera mondiaal, quand a l'è staa ol front de bataja dal november 1917 a l'otober 1918.
