알파고 대 이세돌 또는 딥마인드 챌린지 매치(Google Deepmind Challenge match)는 2016년 3월 9일부터 15일까지, 하루 한 차례의 대국으로 총 5회에 걸쳐 서울의 포 시즌스 호텔에서 진행된 이세돌과 알파고(영어: AlphaGo) 간의 바둑 대결이다. 최고의 바둑 인공지능 프로그램과 바둑의 최고 중 최고 인간 실력자의 대결로 주목을 받았으며, 최종 결과는 알파고가 4승 1패로 이세돌에게 승리하였다.

소개

1946년 세계 최초의 컴퓨터 에니악이 발명된 이후 계산에서부터 시작해서 논리, 사고, 자각 등 실제 지능과 같은 인공적으로 만든 인공지능의 발전도 거듭해왔고 1997년 IBM의 인공지능 딥 블루가 세계 체스 챔피언 가리 카스파로프를 상대로 승리하였고 같은 해 로지스텔로가 오델로 세계 챔피언을 상대로 승리하고 인공지능 왓슨 또한 미국의 퀴즈 프로그램에서 역대 우승자를 제치고 우승을 차지하였지만 바둑은 게임의 전개가 다양해 오랫동안 인공지능이 정복하지 못한 게임이였다. 2008년 바둑 인공지능 모고는 김명완기사를 상대로 9점 접바둑으로 승리를 거뒀고 2011년 젠은 마사키와 5점, 4점 접바둑을 둬 승리하였다. 2016년 초, 유럽의 바둑 챔피언 판 후이를 상대로 맞바둑 5번기 중 5번을 승리해 완승으로 마무리하였고 같은 해 3월, 세계 최고의 기사로 평가되는 사람 중 한 명인 이세돌을 상대로 하게 되어 이번엔 인공지능이 바둑마저 정복할 수 있을지 관심이 쏠렸다.[1]

상금으로 100만 달러가 걸려있으며 5판 중 3판을 이세돌이 이긴다면 이 상금은 이세돌이 가져가고 알파고가 승리하면 유엔 아동 기금 및 STEM 교육(과학ㆍ기술ㆍ공학ㆍ수학 교육) 및 바둑 관련 자선 단체에 기부되며[2]별도로 판 당 대국료 15만 달러, 승리 시 승리 수당 2만 달러가 더 걸려있다.

대국 당사자 이세돌은 승부를 4대 1 혹은 5대 0으로 자신이 이길 것이라고 하였으며 구글 CEO 에릭 슈밋은 대국 전 방한하여 누가 이기든 인류의 승리라고 하였다.[3]

알파고가 팝업창으로 "AlphaGo resigns. The result "W+Resign" was added to the game information"이라는 메시지를 보이며 패배를 선언했다.

이세돌 9단의 첫 승리이다. 해설진들은 78수를 신의 한 수라 지칭하며 결정적으로 승리에 굉장히 크게 이바지했다고 평가했다.

3월 15일 13시부터 진행되었는데 백을 잡은 알파고가 280수 끝에 불계승했다.

방송

경기는 한국어, 중국어, 일본어, 영어로 실황 생중계되었다. 첫 경기의 중국어 방송에서는 구리 9단과 커제 9단의 해설로 텐센트와 Letv로 각각 방송되었고, 6천만 뷰를 기록하였다.[5] 유튜브로 방송된 영어 방송에서는 미국 출신의 마이클 레드먼드와 미국 바둑 협회(AGA) 통신의 크리스 갈록이 해설을 맡았고, 평균 8만 뷰에 끝날 무렵에는 10만 뷰를 기록하였다.[6]

대한민국에서는 공중파와 바둑 채널을 통해 실황으로 방송되었는데, 3월 9일 한국방송공사에서 방송된 제1국은 시청률 5.5%를 기록하였고,[7] 3월 10일 에스비에스에서 방영된 제2국의 시청률은 최고 10.87%를 기록하였다.[8] 3월 12일(토)의 제3국 시청률은 전체대국을 방송한 종합편성채널 TV조선에서는 3.66%, 오후 3시 58분부터 방송한 한국방송공사의 지상파 KBS1 채널에서는 3.31%이었고,[9] 3월 13일(일) 한국방송공사에서 방영된 제4국은 평균 시청률 8.7%, 순간 최고 시청률 14.3%를 기록했다.[10] 4국에서 승리한 직후이자 마지막 경기인 5국은 한국방송공사, 문화방송, 에스비에스 등 대부분의 공중파가 생방송으로 중계하였고, 케이블에서는 바둑 전문 채널이 아닌 채널에서도 바둑 실황이 중계되었다. 한국방송공사의 후반 시청률은 7.9%, 케이블 채널인 TV조선은 평균 2.23%, 최고 6.1%의 시청률을 기록했다고 보도되었다.[11]
