Biografia

Sorella maggiore di Bai Yang, Yang Mo nacque a Pechino nel 1914. Il benessere economico della famiglia andò in crisi nel 1931, quando il padre, dopo aver dichiarato bancarotta, fuggì e abbandonò moglie e figli. Dopo aver rifiutato un matrimonio combinato,[1] Yang Mo iniziò quindi a lavorare come insegnante e nel 1934 pubblicò la sua prima opera, un saggio. Nel 1936 si unì al Partito Comunista Cinese e nel 1937 si trasferì a Shanxi durante la seconda guerra sino-giapponese.

Nel 1958 scrisse il suo romanzo più famoso, Qingchun zhi ge, di ispirazione parzialmente autobiografica; il romanzo divenne un best seller[1] e fu riadattato per il grande schermo l'anno dopo.[2] La sua popolarità andò in crisi durante la rivoluzione culturale, quando le sue opere furono etichettate come borghesi e reazionarie. Nel 1986 pubblicò, nell'indifferenza generale, Fangfei zhi ge, sequel di Qingchun zhi ge.[1]

Morì nel 1995 all'età di 81 anni.
