Terminator Zero[2] (ターミネーターZERO?, Tāminētā: Zero), conosciuto originariamente in Giappone come Terminator: The Anime Series, è una serie televisiva animata in stile anime dal genere azione, fantascienza, thriller, fantastico e mecha giapponese-americana ideata da Masashi Kudō, e fa parte del franchise di Terminator (a differenza delle precedenti puntante cinematografiche in live-action, questa saga è ambientata in Giappone senza alcun legame con Sarah Connor o suo figlio John, concentrandosi invece sui nuovi personaggi). La serie espande la storia del film Terminator 2 - Il giorno del giudizio (1991) e ha debuttato su Netflix il 29 agosto 2024.

Trama

Nell'anno 2022, una guerra che continua da decenni vede contrapporsi i pochi umani sopravvissuti della Resistenza e un implacabile esercito di macchine ribelli. Nel 1997, la malvagia intelligenza artificiale Skynet acquisisce una coscienza e comincia una guerra senza fine contro gli umani. Intrappolata fra questi passato e futuro c'è una misteriosa e impavida combattente della Resistenza, chiamata Eiko, che viene scelta per tornare indietro nel tempo e cambiare il destino dell'umanità fino all'arrivo del Giorno del Giudizio. Arrivata nel 29 agosto 1997 si ritrova a proteggere Malcom Lee, un brillante scienziato giapponese a Tokyo che sta lavorando ad una nuova intelligenza artificiale (nota come Kokoro) progettata per competere contro l'imminente attacco di Skynet e di impedire la fine del mondo. Mentre Malcom cerca di comprendere le complessità morali derivate dalla sua creazione, inizia ad essere braccato da uno spietato e letale robot assassino proveniente dal futuro che altererà per sempre il destino finale dei suoi tre figli (Kenta, Reika e Hiro).
