NGC 3264 è una galassia a spirale situata nella costellazione dell'Orsa Maggiore, a una distanza di circa 61 milioni di anni luce dalla nostra Via Lattea.[1]

Scoperta

La galassia è stata scoperta il 9 febbraio 1831 dall'astronomo britannico John Herschel.[1]

Descrizione

NGC 3264 ha una classe di luminosità IV-V e presenta una larga riga a 21 cm dell'idrogeno neutro. Nella galassia sono presenti anche regioni di idrogeno ionizzato.[2]

Gruppo di NGC 3264

NGC 3264 è una galassia luminosa nel dominio dei raggi X[2] e fa parte del gruppo che porta il suo nome, il Gruppo di NGC 3264, che comprende sei galassie. Le altre cinque galassie del gruppo sono NGC 3206, NGC 3220, NGC 3353, UGC 5848 e UGCA 211.[4]

Questo gruppo è citato con le stesse galassie anche da Garcia nel suo studio del 1993.[5]
