Si lega al recettore dell’interferone alfa/beta, ma non al recettore dell’interferone gamma.[2]

Il gene codificante per questa proteina non presenta introni, ma possiede diversi pseudogeni distribuiti nel genoma.[2]
Patologie
Le patologie associate a mutazione del gene IFNW1 includono il rabdomiosarcoma orale e la sindrome autoimmune poliendocrina.[2]
