Originariamente parte di FreeType, il progetto è utilizzato in numerosi progetti open source tra cui Android, Chrome OS, Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, GNOME, KDE, LibreOffice e XeTeX, oltre che a software proprietari quali Adobe Photoshop e Adobe InDesign.[1][2]
