La diocesi di Valença (in latino Dioecesis Valentina in Brasilia) è una sede della Chiesa cattolica in Brasile suffraganea dell'arcidiocesi di Rio de Janeiro. Nel 2022 contava 258.000 battezzati su 404.000 abitanti. È retta dal vescovo Nelson Francelino Ferreira.

Territorio

La diocesi comprende 9 comuni nella parte nord-occidentale dello Stato brasiliano di Rio De Janeiro: Valença, Comendador Levy Gasparian, Paraíba do Sul, Paty do Alferes, Rio das Flores, Sapucaia, Três Rios e Vassouras, nonché parte del comune di Miguel Pereira.[1]

Sede vescovile è la città di Valença, dove si trova la cattedrale di Nostra Signora della Gloria.

Il territorio si estende su 3.996 km² ed è suddiviso in 28 parrocchie.

Storia

La diocesi è stata eretta il 27 marzo 1925 con la bolla Ex apostolico officio di papa Pio XI, ricavandone il territorio dalla diocesi di Barra do Piraí (oggi diocesi di Barra do Piraí-Volta Redonda).

Il 26 marzo 1960 ha ceduto una porzione del suo territorio a vantaggio dell'erezione della diocesi di Nova Friburgo.
