Sejarah

SMP Negeri 1 Muara Lawa merupakan sekolah menengah pertama terletak di Jalan balont, Kampung Lambing, Kecamatan Muara Lawa, Kabupaten Kutai Barat, Provinsi Kalimantan Timur, Indonesia.

Walaupun sekolah ini berstatus negeri, karena berada di wilayah Pedalaman, tentu saja keadaan sekolah ini masih memprihatinkan. Keberadaan sekolah tidak lebih sekadar pemerataan pendidikan. Dan yang lebih memprihatinkan lagi sekolah ini belum memiliki kantor bagi guru dan tata usaha sehingga menggunakan ruang kelas untuk kantor tata usaha dan guru.

Sebelumnya SMP ini adalah SMP swasta bernama SMP Swasta Lambing yang didirikan pada tahun 1971 dibawah asuhan guru-guru profesional lokal dan dari luar Lambing pada saat itu, mengingat untuk menempuh pendidikan menengah pertama, harus bersekolah di Melak atau Muara Pahu. Pada saat itu bahkan hingga tahun 1990an sangat sulit untuk menjangkau 2 kecamatan tersebut, terlebih tidak ada asrama untuk menampung para siswa. Selanjutnya sekolah ini dinegerikan pada tahun 1983 dengan nama SMP Negeri lambing, kemudian berubah menjadi SMP Negeri 1 Muara Lawa di Lambing,dan sekarang menjadi smp negeri 8 sendawar sejak tahun 2005 sampai dengan 2014 dan sekarang berganti nama kembali menjadi SMP Negeri 1 Muara Lawa sedangkan SMP Negeri 2 Muara Lawa berkedudukan di Dilang Puti Bentian Besar, hingga sekarang menjadi SMP Negeri 16 Sendawar.

  2. perpus : 1 ruang tetapi bukan ruang perpustakaan melainkan ruang ketrampilan

  • 2 buah lap volley difungsikan juga sebagai lap upcara
  • ruang kls, ruang staff, guru dan ruang administrasi
  • sekretariat osis
