Pengawasan otoritas

Dalam ilmu perpustakaan, pengawasan otoritas adalah proses yang mengatur katalog perpustakaan, dan informasi bibliografi[1][2] dengan menggunakan nama tunggal yang berbeda untuk setiap topik. Sistem ini diterapkan secara konsisten di seluruh katalog,[3] dan bekerja dengan data pengorganisasian lain seperti hubungan, dan rujukan silang.[3][4] Setiap judul dijelaskan secara singkat dalam hal ruang lingkup, dan penggunaan, dan organisasi ini membantu staf perpustakaan mempertahankan katalog, dan membuatnya mudah ditemukan, dan diteliti para peneliti. Kata otoritas berasal dari penggunaannya dalam mengidentifikasi penulis (author dalam bahasa Inggris), dan tidak memiliki arti yang berhubungan dengan kekuasaan, meskipun terkait secara etimologis.[5][6][7]
