Pekan Mode New York adalah pagelaran pekan mode yang diselenggarakan pada bulan Februari dan September setiap tahunnya di New York City, Amerika Serikat. Pekan mode ini adalah salah satu dari "empat besar" pekan mode yang diselenggarakan di seluruh dunia (bersama dengan Paris, London, dan Milan.[1][2]

Sejarah

Pekan Mode New York (yang awalnya disebut "Press Week") adalah pekan mode yang pertama kali diselenggarakan di dunia. Mulai diselenggarakan pada tahun 1943, pagelaran ini dimaksudkan untuk mengalihkan perhatian industri mode Amerika dari mode Prancis selama Perang Dunia II, di mana pada saat itu para pekerja mode tidak bisa berangkat ke Paris untuk menyaksikan peragaan busana Prancis.[3] Publisis mode Eleanor Lambert kemudian menyelenggarakan sebuah acara yang dinamainya "Press Week" untuk memeragakan busana-busana rancangan desainer Amerika kepada jurnalis mode, yang sebelumnya mengabaikan karya-karya mereka.[3] Press Week ini sukses, dan majalah-majalah seperti Vogue–yang awalnya berkiblat pada mode Paris dan London–mulai menampilkan karya-karya desainer Amerika.[3]

Pada awalnya, pagelaran Pekan Mode New York diselenggarakan di Bryant Park, tetapi sejak 2009 dipindahkan ke Lincoln Center.[4] Pada tahun 2009, pagelaran ini dinamai Pekan Mode Mercedez-Benz untuk alasan sponsor.
