Hinduisme meliputi serangkaian sudut pandang tentang asal mula kehidupan, kreasionisme dan evolusi. Tak ada kisah penciptaan tunggal, karena keragaman dinamis dari Hinduisme, dan kisah-kisah tersebut berasal dari berbagai sumber seperti Weda, beberapa dari Brahmana, beberapa dari Purana; beberapa bersifat filsafat, berdasarkan pada konsep-konsep, dan lainnya adalah naratif.[1] Rigweda menyatakan bahwa Hiranyagarbha ("telur emas") sebagai sumber penciptaan alam semesta, mirip dengan motif telur dunia yang ditemukan dalam mitos penciptaan dari banyak peradaban lain. Ini juga meliputi sebuah mitos proto-Indo-Eropa, dimana penciptaan timbul dari pemisah-misahan kosmik (Purusha) yang disakralkan oleh para dewa.[2]
