Newport adalah kota tepi laut di Pulau Aquidneck di Rhode Island, Amerika Serikat. Terletak di Teluk Narragansett, sekitar 33 mil (53 km) tenggara Providence, 20 mil (32 km) selatan Fall River, Massachusetts, 74 mil (119 km) selatan Boston, dan 180 mil (290 km) timur laut dari Kota New York. Tempat ini dikenal sebagai resor musim panas New England dan terkenal dengan rumah-rumah bersejarah dan sejarah pelayarannya yang kaya. Kota ini berpenduduk sekitar 25.000 jiwa.[1]

Newport menjadi tuan rumah turnamen AS Terbuka pertama dalam bidang tenis dan golf, serta setiap tantangan Piala Amerika antara tahun 1930 dan 1983. Newport juga merupakan rumah bagi Universitas Salve Regina dan Naval Station Newport, yang menampung United States Naval War College, Pusat Perang Bawah Laut Angkatan Laut, dan pusat pelatihan Angkatan Laut yang penting. Kota ini merupakan kota pelabuhan besar pada abad ke-18 dan memiliki banyak bangunan dari era kolonial.[2]

Geografi

Newport adalah kota terpadat di Pulau Aquidneck di Teluk Narragansett. Menurut Biro Sensus Amerika Serikat, kota ini memiliki luas total 11,4 mil persegi (29,5 km2), dimana 7,7 mil persegi (19,9 km2) merupakan daratan dan 3,7 mil persegi (9,6 km2), atau 32,64% adalah perairan.[3] Jembatan Newport, jembatan gantung terpanjang di New England, menghubungkan Newport ke Pulau Conanicut yang berdekatan melintasi Jalur Timur Narragansett.
