Maywood merupakan Gateway city dan kota terinkorporasi terkecil ketiga yang ada di Los Angeles County, Amerika Serikat.[8][9] Berbatasan dengan kota Bell di selatan, Vernon di utara dan barat, Huntington Park di barat daya dan Commerce di timur. Maywood menjadi kota terpadat di California dan memiliki proporsi jumlah penduduk tertinggi yang terdiri dari orang Latin, imigran dan imigran yang tidak terdaftar di county.

Per Juli 1, 2010, Maywood menjadi kota pertama di California yang menggunakan tenaga kerja outsourcing untuk semua layanan kotanya,[10][11][12] merombak departemen kepolisiannya, memberhentikan semua pegawai kota kecuali manajer kota, pengacara kota dan pejabat terpilih[11] dan membuat kontrak dengan pihak ketiga untuk penyediaan semua layanan kota.[13]
