Laodike (putri Antiokhos II)

Laodike (abad ke-3 SM) merupakan seorang Putri Yunani Kekaisaran Seleukia. Laodike berasal dari Makedonia Yunani dan keturunan Persia. Ia adalah salah satu putri dan yang bungsu raja Seleukia Antiokhos II Theos dan Laodike I.[1] Di antara saudara-saudaranya adalah Seleukos II dan Antiokhos Hierax. Laodike lahir dan dibesarkan di Kekaisaran Seleukia.

Dari manapun dari tahun 245 SM sampai 239 SM, ibundanya dan Seleukos II mengaturnya untuk menikah dengan Raja Mithridates II dari Pontos.[2][3] Laodike menikah dengan Mithridates II, sebagai bagian dari aliansi politik di antara Kekaisaran Seleukia dan Kerajaan Pontos. Pada tahun 245 SM, ibundanya dan Seleukos II berada id dalam Perang Suriah Ketiga. Untuk mendapat dukungan dari Kerajaan Pontos, Laodike dinikahkan dengan Mithridates II dan sebagai maharnya, Frigia juga dipindahkan.[2]

Melalui pernikahannya Laodike menjadi Ratu Pontos. Pernikahan Mithridates dengan Laodike adalah salah satu fitur terpenting di masa pemerintahannya dan merupakan kebijakan pernikahan ambisius yang diprakarsainya.[4] Melalui aliansi politik dan pernikahannya dengan Laodike, Mithridates II bersekutu denga wangsa kerajaan yang paling penting di Asia dan mendapatkan pengakuan yang mengesankan bagi Pontos sebagai kekuatan politik di dunia Helenistik.[4] This marriage also strengthened the pro-Seleucid orientation in foreign policy of Pontus.[3]

Pernikahan terjadi pada awal pemerintahan Seleukos II Kallinikus, jadi ia dapat mengamankan Anatolia di belakangnya, sehingga Seleukos II dapat mengalihkan perhatiannya untuk berperang dengan Firaun Yunani Mesir Ptolemaios III Euergetes.[4] Pada titik tertentu, Laodike mungkin telah mempengaruhi Mithridates II oleh keinginannya untuk melemahkan negara Seleukia, dengan mendukung saudara pertamanya Seleukos II Kallinikus dalam memimpin bersama dengan saudaranya yang lain Antiokhos Hierax, yang berperang sipil satu sama lain.[4] Laodike dan Mithridates II memiliki tiga orang anak, dua orang putri: Laodike III dan Laodike dari Pontos dan seorang putra Mithridates III dari Pontos.[2]
