Kesatria (gelar)

Kesatria (bahasa Inggris: knight) adalah seorang pejuang yang diberi gelar kehormatan oleh kepala negara monarki (atau Paus) atau perwakilannya karena jasanya untuk negara, kerajaan, atau Gereja dalam bidang kemiliteran. Kesatria menjadi suatu kelas sosial dan menempati posisi yang terhormat dan prestise pada masa Abad Pertengahan di Eropa.[1]

Karya Sir Thomas Malory Le Morte d'Arthur ("Kematian Arthur"), ditulis tahun 1485, berperan besar dalam mendefinisikan idealisme kavaleri yang penting bagi pembentukan konsep kesatria sebagai seorang pejuang elit yang bersumpah untuk menjaga nilai-nilai keimanan, kesetiaan, keberanian, dan kehormatan.
