Dr. rer nat Johny Setiawan, adalah seorang ilmuwan Indonesia di bidang astronomi dan astrofisika, dan pernah menjabat sebagai Ketua Umum Ikatan Ilmuwan Indonesia Internasional (I-4) periode 2015 - 2017.[1] Selain di bidang astrofisika, Johny Setiawan juga memiliki kemampuan di bidang lainnya, antara lain corporate health dan entrepreneurship.

Riwayat Hidup dan Pendidikan

Johny Setiawan dibesarkan di Jakarta, dan sejak kecil sudah memiliki keingintahuan yang tinggi mengenai bidang astronomi. Ia menyelesaikan sekolah jenjang menengahnya di SMA Fons Vitae I, Matraman, Jakarta Timur.[2]

Ia hijrah ke Jerman sejak tahun 1992 untuk melanjutkan kuliah dan menamatkan pendidikan pra-universitasnya (Studienkolleg) di kota Heidelberg tahun 1993. Setelah itu, ia kuliah fisika di Universitas Freiburg tahun 1993 dan menyelesaikannya pada tahun 1999 dengan gelar Diplom Physiker (setara S2/Master).[1]

Skripsi yang ditulis untuk program S2-nya adalah tentang speckle interferometry. Dan ia melanjutkan program doktoral dan meneruskan penelitiannya di astrofisika, yang berhasil diselesaikan tahun 2003 pada usia 28 tahun dengan gelar Doktor rerum naturalium (Dr. rer. nat.). Tesisnya yang bertemakan Variabilitas pada Bintang Raksasa Type K (K-Giants) mendapat nilai summa cum laude. Pada tahun itu juga, Johny Setiawan mempublikasikan penemuan planetnya yang pertama, HD 47536 di jurnal Astronomy & Astrophysics.[1]

Johny Setiawan bekerja di Kiepenheuer-Institute for Solar Physics di Freiburg tahun 1997-2003 dan juga di European Southern Observatory di Garching/Munich dan di Chile. Setelah menyelesaikan program doktornya, Johny Setiawan melanjutkan risetnya di Max-Planck-Institute for Astronomy. Bersama timnya Johny Setiawan melakukan pengamatan bertahun-tahun di observatorium milik ESO di Chile, menganalisis data hingga berhasil mempublikasikan penemuan-penemuan di jurnal-jurnal internasional. Penemuan-penemuan planetnya pernah dipublikasikan di jurnal kelas tertinggi dunia seperti Nature (2008) dan Science (2010).[1]

Tidak cukup dengan pengetahuan di bidang astronomi, ia kemudian kuliah di bidang hukum dan ekonomi di Universitas Mannheim (2009 - 2011). Ia pernah menjabat sebagai wakil ketua Ikatan Ilmuwan Indonesia Internasional (I-4) periode 2009 - 2011 dan selanjutnya duduk dalam dewan penasihat. Selanjutnya Dr. Johny Setiawan dipercaya sebagai Direktur Eksekutif Luar Negeri I-4 (2013 - 2015), di mana ia melakukan kerja sama intensif dengan Indonesia Diaspora Network. Akhir tahun 2015, Dr. rer. nat. Johny Setiawan terpilih sebagai Ketua Umum Ikatan Ilmuwan Indonesia Internasional dan bercita-cita untuk menjadikan organisasi ini sebagai Duta Ilmuwan Indonesia di dunia.[1]

Sejak tahun 2021 Johny Setiawan bergabung di AHAB Akademie di Berlin yang bergerak di bidang management kesehatan dan Corporate Health.
