John Douglas (c. 1500 – 1574) adalah Uskup Agung St Andrews yang beragama Protestan dari tahun 1571 hingga 1574. Sebagaimana tradisi dari abad ke-15 hingga ke-17, Uskup Agung juga berperan sebagai Kanselir Universitas St Andrews, karena Universitas ini memiliki hubungan yang kuat dengan gereja Pra-Reformasi.

Kehidupan

John Douglas, lahir di Longnewton, Roxburghshire, 'anak haram dari quondam' Robert Douglas. Surat pengesahan diberikan pada tanggal 2 Januari 1563-64.^[1] Dia lulus dari Universitas Paris, di mana dia adalah rekan mahasiswa Archibald Hay di Montague College. Dia mungkin adalah "magister Johannes Douglas," yang lulus dari Psedagogium pada tanggal 25 Juni 1523. Ia diangkat oleh Ratu Mary sebelum tanggal 1 Oktober 1547, di mana pada tanggal tersebut komisioner dan wakil prior memberikan pemberitahuan tentang pengangkatan tersebut kepada vikaris Tynninghame dan para kurator Inchbryok dan Tannadice, dengan instruksi untuk mengumumkannya di gereja masing-masing, dengan pendapatan gereja-gereja tersebut menjadi bagian dari dana abadi Kolese. Ia diangkat menjadi rektor Universitas, 1551-73. Douglas adalah salah satu dari "Enam John" yang menulis Buku Disiplin Pertama dan Pengakuan Iman Skotlandia pada tahun 1560. ^{[2] [3] [4]}

Ia ditahbiskan sebagai Uskup Agung St Andrews pada 10 Februari 1572.^[5] Ia adalah orang pertama yang memegang jabatan Keuskupan Protestan di Skotlandia.^[6] Ia meninggal pada bulan Oktober 1576.^[7]
