Douglas C-74 Globemaster

Douglas C-74 Globemaster adalah pesawat kargo sayap rendah (low wing) angkat berat Amerika dibangun oleh Douglas Aircraft Company di Long Beach, California. Pesawat ini dikembangkan setelah Jepang menyerang Pearl Harbor. Jauhnya jarak melintasi Atlantik, dan terutama Samudra Pasifik ke wilayah tempur menunjukkan kebutuhan untuk pesawat angkut militer angkat berat melintasi samudra. Douglas Aircraft Company pada tahun 1942 menanggapi dengan desain bermesin empat raksasa. Pengembangan dan masalah produksi modifikasi dengan pesawat menyebabkan penerbangan pertama ditunda sampai 5 September 1945, dan produksi terbatas pada 14 pesawat setelah kontrak produksi dibatalkan setelah VJ Day.[1]

Meski tidak diproduksi dalam jumlah besar, C-74 tidak memenuhi kebutuhan untuk airlifter strategis jangka panjang, di mana selanjutnya Douglas C-124 Globemaster II digunakan oleh Angkatan Udara selama bertahun-tahun.
