Softball adalah olahraga yang sebelumnya dipertandingkan di Olimpiade Musim Panas . Pada tanggal 8 Desember 1989, Komite Olimpiade Internasional (IOC) menolak untuk menyelenggarakan turnamen softball sebagai olahraga demonstrasi di Olimpiade Musim Panas 1992.[1] Pada sesi IOC ke-97 pada tahun 1991, olahraga tersebut diberikan status resmi sebagai olahraga medali untuk Olimpiade Atlanta 1996 .[2] Softball dipertandingkan di setiap Pertandingan berikutnya hingga 2008, setelah itu IOC menghapusnya dari program Olimpiade.
