פרופ' ריצ'רד (ירחמיאל) כהן

ריצ'רד (ירחמיאל) כהן (באנגלית: Richard I. Cohen; נולד ב־2 בספטמבר 1946) הוא היסטוריון, פרופסור אמריטוס באוניברסיטה העברית בירושלים. עד פרישתו עמד בראש הקתדרה לחקר יהדות צרפת ויצירתה ע"ש פולט וקלוד קלמן באוניברסיטה העברית. עוסק בחקר היהודים במערב ובמרכז אירופה בעת המודרנית, במיוחד ביהודים בצרפת, בהיסטוריה אמנותית, בהיסטוריוגרפיה יהודית, ובשואה.

ביוגרפיה

ריצ'רד כהן נולד ב־1946 במונטריאול שבקנדה. עשה תואר ראשון באוניברסיטת מקגיל, שם למד היסטוריה וסוציולוגיה עד שעלה לישראל בשנת 1967. את התואר השני סיים בשנת 1972, ודוקטורט סיים ב־1981, שניהם באוניברסיטה העברית.

כהן היה חבר בוועדה הבינלאומית לכתיבת "האנציקלופדיה של השואה" שפורסמה בשנת 1990 במהדורה אנגלית ובמהדורה עברית על ידי יד ושם. כיום מכהן כמנהל פרויקט המחקר "דעת המקום" באוניברסיטה העברית.

עבודתו מ־1998, "Jewish Icons: Art and society in Modern Europe", היא תוצאה של שיתוף פעולה בן 15 שנה עם עמיתו באוניברסיטה העברית, עזרא מנדלסון, לעודד מחקר בתרבות החזותית ובחברה היהודית המודרנית.
