הגרעין הזנבי (בלועזית: הגרעין הקאודטי) הוא חלק תת-קורטיקלי של המוח. הגרעין הזנבי נמצא בסטריאטום, אשר מכיל גם את הפוטמן ושייך לגרעיני הבסיס^[1].

הגרעין הזנבי מגיע לגודלו המרבי בגיל 10 שנים^[2].

לגרעין הזנבי יש שלוחות לאונה המצחית^[1], המאפשרת חופש וגמישות מחשבתיים^[3] ועוסקת גם בתנועה ובתכנון של תנועה^[4].

בנוסף, יש לו שלוחות גם לתלמוס^[1], המקושר לקליפת המוח^[5] ומחבר בינה לבין אזורים תת-קורטיקליים^[6]. התלמוס קולט ומעבד את מרבית המידע התחושתי והתנועתי שמגיע אל קליפת המוח^[7]^[5]. הוא מעורב גם בתפקודים רגשיים ובתהליכי העוררות^[5].

הפלט של הגרעין הזנבי מועבר לגלובוס פלידוס (Globus pallidus), שגם הוא חלק מגרעיני הבסיס^[4].

הגרעין הזנבי מקבל דופמין מתאי עצב של החומר השחור^[4]. מחלת פרקינסון נגרמת מניוון של התאים המחברים בין החומר השחור לגרעין הזנבי^[4].
