סירת חתירה

חתירה היא פעילויות בה החותר מנתב את כוח רגליו, גבו וזרועותיו להנעת המשוטים באמצעותם מתקדם כלי שיט על פני המים.

זוהי שיטת תחבורה אשר קיימת אלפי שנים ומשמשת כיום בעיקר למטרות פנאי ובמסגרת תחרויות ספורט.

היסטוריה

העדויות המוקדמות ביותר לחתירה הם ממצרים העתיקה, אם כי לא ברור אם הטכניקה פותחה במצרים העתיקה או שהמצרים למדו על הטכניקה במסגרת הסחר עם מסופוטמיה. בעבר התגלה דגם של כלי חתירה בקבר מצרי שמתוארך למאה ה-19 לפני הספירה,[1] אשר לפי ההערכות היה מותאם לשימוש בנהרות רדודים כמו הפרת והחידקל במסופוטמיה.

עוד מהעת העתיקה ספינות חתירה היו בעלות השפעה רבה בלוחמה ימית ובמסחר הימי באזור הים התיכון.[2]

בספינת הטרירמה, אשר הייתה ספינת מלחמה יוונית טיפוסית ביוון העתיקה, פעלו כ-170 חותרים.[3] לגאליים היו ספינות עם תרנים ומפרשים אך גם הם הסתמכו על שימוש במשוטים במסגרת לוחמה ימית.

ספינות החתירה הגיעו לצפון אירופה באופן הדרגתי בין המאה ה-4 לפני הספירה עד תחילת המאה ה-1 לספירה.

בין השנים 500 ל-1100 לספירה הוויקינגים השתמשו בכלי שיט שהכילו גם תרנים ומפרשים אך גם משוטים, הן לצורך מסחר והן לצורך לוחמה.[4]

ספינות משוטים המשיכו להיות נפוצות באזור הים התיכון עד פיתוח אוניות הקיטור.
