A síndrome de Löffler, tamén chamada eosinofilia pulmonar simple, é unha doenza englobada no grupo das chamadas eosinofilias pulmonares. Nesta doenza, os eosinófilos acumúlanse no tecido pulmonar, en gran medida por mor dunha infección parasitaria, aínda que tamén pode ser provocada por fungos e outros axentes. Describiuse por vez primeira no ano 1921 grazas a Wilhelm Löffler, que indentificou a presenza de eosinofilia en pacientes afectados por Ascaris lumbricoides, Strongyloides stercoralis, Ancylostoma duodenale e Necator americanus, todos eles parasitos.

Ao dano cardíaco producido polo depósito anormal de gránulos eosinofílicos coñécese polo nome de endocardite de Löffler e poder ser causada por resposta á infección parasitaria ou pode ser idiopática.

Síntomas

A sintomatoloxía típica da síndrome de Löffler é a tose seca, a dor torácica, febre e malestar xeral, dificultade respiratoria, erupcións cutáneas e un aumento da frecuencia respiratoria. Ás veces pode incluso non dar ningún tipo de síntoma. O prognóstico adoita ser excelente, cunha recuperación completa ás catro semanas.

Tratamento

O curso desta doenza adoita ser benigno e autolimitado, isto é, cura soa en menos de catro semanas. Por outra banda, a tratamento principal está orientado a tratar a causa primaria. Así, se a doenza ten a súa orixe nunha infección, o tratamento basearase na prescrición do antibiótico axeitado. Se a eosinofilia é un efecto adverso a un fármaco, este habería de serlle retirado ao paciente. En casos un pouco máis severos, pode ser necesario o tratamento con corticoides.[1]
