Surfbort est un groupe de punk rock américain formé à Brooklyn, New York, en 2014 par la chanteuse Dani Miller. Ils ont sorti trois albums, et plusieurs EP chez Cult Records, Roolette Records, Rough Trade Records, Muddguts Records, Fat Possum Records et Slope Records.

Biographie

Formation et débuts (2014-2017)

Surfbort se forme en 2014 à Brooklyn, New York, par la chanteuse Dani Miller, alors qu'elle cherche des artistes pour un concert[1],[2]. Le groupe tire son nom de la chanson « Drunk in Love » de Beyoncé[3]. Ils commencent à sortir des titres avec le single « Trash » en 2015[4], suivi de leur premier EP éponyme sur le label Slope Records[5],[6].

Le Texan Sean Powell rejoint le groupe à la batterie en . En , le guitariste d'origine, Matt Picola, quitte le groupe et Powell demande à son compatriote texan Alex Kilgore de le remplacer à la guitare.

En 2017, le groupe se produit au festival Coachella[7].

Premier album Friendship Music (2018-2020)

Leur premier album, Friendship Music, sort en 2018 sur Cult Records[3].

En 2019, le groupe est mis en avant dans la campagne pré-automne 2019 de Gucci, photographiée en Sicile, après s'être produit lors de l'ouverture du magasin Gucci de Wooster Street à New York[8].

Surfbort fait des tournées internationales pendant cette période, se produisant avec des groupes tels que Idles, Interpol, Wolf Alice, Descendents, Amyl and the Sniffers, Black Lips, Tropical Fuck Storm, Iceage et Starcrawler[9].

En 2020, le guitariste original Matt Picola rejoint le groupe, et l'ancien roadie Nick Arnold devient le bassiste du groupe[10].

Deuxième album Keep On Truckin (2021-2024)

Surfbort enregistre son deuxième album studio, Keep On Truckin ', avec la productrice Linda Perry en 2021. Le titre « Open Your Eyes » de l'album est ajouté au jeu vidéo Rocket League en 2022, et le groupe apparait sur la chanson « Just What You Want » de Grouplove la même année.

Troisième album Reality Star (2025 à aujourd'hui)

En 2025, Surfbort annonce la sortie de son troisième album studio, Reality Star, pour le chez TODO Records. Le premier single, « Lucky », sort accompagné d'un clip réalisé par Pooneh Ghana. Miller a décrit le morceau comme un « discours d'encouragement illusoire » lors d'une période personnelle difficile[11].

Reconnaissance

Ils participent à une campagne publicitaire de Gucci, et les membres de Blondie les ont cités parmi leurs groupes préférés[3].
