Étymologie

Il est issu du mot grec πέλαγος, pélágos signifiant « la pleine mer » ou « le large »[1]. Pélagie est le surnom de la déesse Vénus car elle est la fille du Ciel et de la Mer dont elle surgit nue de l'écume[2] à la suite de la castration de son Père Uranus (Ouranos) par son fils Saturne (Cronos).
