La cathédrale Notre-Dame-de-Guadalupe de Canelones est une église située à Canelones en Uruguay, à laquelle l’Église catholique donne les statuts de sanctuaire national[1] et de cathédrale[2] du diocèse de Canelones[2]. Elle est dédiée à Notre-Dame de Guadalupe[1],[2].

Histoire

La paroisse existe depuis 1775[1]. La construction de l’édifice actuel débute en 1816[1], en remplacement de la précédente église paroissiale[1] ; elle s’étale alors sur plus d’un siècle[3],[4].

L’église devient sanctuaire diocésain en 1945[1], puis cathédrale en 1961[1]. La Conférence épiscopale de l’Uruguay l’élève en sanctuaire national par un décret du [1],[5].

La cathédrale possède un orgue mécanique à 11 registres, deux claviers et 556 tuyaux[3], construit à Savone en Italie[6] par Giovanni Battista Dessiglioli[3] et installé en 1900[6], qui est classé Monument historique national (es)[6].
