Richard Mason (s. 1977 Johannesburg, Etelä-Afrikka) on englantilainen proosakirjailija. Esikoisteos The Drowning People (1999) nosti hänet maineeseen, joka kävi hänelle ahdistavaksi.[1]

Mason muutti kymmenvuotiaana vanhempiensa kanssa Englantiin. Hän kävi Etonia ja opiskeli sen jälkeen New Collegessa Oxfordin yliopistossa. Hänen ensimmäinen romaaninsa Meren huoneissa (The Drowning People, 1999) ilmestyi, kun hän opiskeli ensimmäistä vuotta Oxfordissa, ja se on käännetty 22 kielelle.

Mason on perustanut kirjoituspalkkioistaan Kay Mason Foundationin vuonna 1988 itsemurhan tehneen sisarensa muistoksi. Sisar sairasti kaksisuuntaista mielialahäiriötä.[2] Säätiön tarkoituksena on tarjota nuorille eteläafrikkalaisille parasta tarjolla olevaa koulutusta, ja noin 30 oppilasta on päässyt tämän tuen piiriin[2]. Säätiön suojelija on Nobelin rauhanpalkinnon saanut eteläafrikkalainen arkkipiispa Desmond Tutu.

Mason on ilmoittanut julkisesti olevansa homoseksuaali,[3] ja hänen esikoiskirjansa käsittelee sitä teemaa.

Mason on käynyt Suomessa kahdesti, esikoiskirjan ilmestyessä vuonna 1999 ja kolmannen kirjan suomennoksen Muistojen huoneet ilmestyttyä 2008.[1]
