Merilinja

Fregatti Christian Radichilla kuvattiin sarjan ulkojaksot.

Merilinja (engl. The Onedin Line) oli BBC:n tuottama televisiodraamasarja, jota esitettiin 1971–1980. Sarjan ideoi ja kehitti Cyril Abraham.

Merilinja sijoittuu vuosien 1860–1886 Liverpooliin ja sen satamaan. Sarjan päähenkilö on köyhyydestä rikkauksiin nouseva liikemies-kapteeni James Onedin, jonka perustaman laivanvarustamon (Onedinin linja) ja perheen sekä kilpailijoiden, Frazerin laivatelakan ja Callonin laivanvarustamon, kohtaloita seurataan kahdeksan tuotantokautta ja 91 jaksoa.

Sarja kuvaa murrosaikaa kauppamerenkulun historiassa, jolloin puurunkoiset purjelaivat vaihtuivat vähitellen höyryvoimalla kulkeviin teräsaluksiin. Samalla sivutaan 1800-luvun lopun maailmankaupan ilmiöitä kuten orjakauppaa ja siirtomaapolitiikkaa.

James Onedinia esittää Peter Gilmore ja hänen vaimoaan Annea Anne Stallybrass. Jamesin aluksen kapteeni Bainesina nähdään Howard Lang ja Jamesin veljenä ja liikekumppani Robertina Brian Rawlinson sekä Elizabeth-siskona Jessica Benton. Jane Seymourille sarja oli Emma Callonin roolin myötä ensimmäinen kosketus kuuluisuuteen. Muita sarjassa nähtyjä, sittemmin nimekkäitä näyttelijöitä ovat Warren Clarke ja Jill Gascoine.

Merilinjan tunnusmusiikkina soi Spartacuksen ja Frygian adagio Aram Hatšaturjanin baletista Spartacus.[1] Yhtenä Onedinin varustamon laivana nähtiin norjalainen fregatti Christian Radich.
