Maithili[1] on indoarjalainen kieli, jota puhutaan Koillis-Intiassa Biharin osavaltiossa ja Nepalissa. Sillä on vuodesta 1992 lähtien ollut virallisen kielen asema Biharissa.[2] Maithililla on noin 30 miljoonaa puhujaa Intiassa ja noin neljä miljoonaa Nepalissa.[2]

Maithili kuuluu indoarjalaisten kielen itäiseen haaraan ja se luetaan yhdessä muun muassa bhodžpurin ja magahin kanssa bihar-kielten ryhmään.[2][3] Maithilia kirjoitetaan devanagari-kirjaimistolla.[2]
