Kari Haili

Kari Haili (5. lokakuuta 1956 Turku – 17. tammikuuta 2013 Lappeenranta)[1] oli suomalainen kapellimestari ja musiikkipedagogi. Hän aloitti muusikonuransa Turun varuskuntasoittokunnassa 1976, josta nuorena sotilassoittajana muutti Lappeenrantaan 1978. Siellä sotilasura jatkui Lappeenrannan varuskuntasoittokunnan klarinetistina. Jo 1980-luvun alusta lähtien hän työskenteli useilla eri tahoilla maakunnassa.[2]

Haili toimi Joutsenon soittokunnan ja Imatran seurakunnan orkesterikoulun kapellimestarina[3] sekä Lappeenrannan musiikkiopiston orkesterien johtajana. Näiden tehtävien takia hän jäi pois armeijasta 1986. Kaakkois-Suomen taidetoimikunta myönsi Hailille taidepalkinnon vuonna 2003.

Haili oli vuonna 1987 perustamansa Lappeenranta Ensemble -kamariorkesterin taiteellinen johtaja, ja Kaakkois-Suomen taidetoimikunnan jäsen 2004-2006. Lähes kaikkien johtamiensa orkestereiden kanssa hän paitsi konsertoi ahkerasti, myös teki lukuisia esiintymismatkoja eri Euroopan maihin. Eteläkarjalaisten orkestereiden lisäksi Haili johti mm. Rauman kaupunginsoittokuntaa 1990-luvulla. [4]

Päätyönään Haili hoiti vuodesta 1986 lähtien Imatran musiikkityön toimialajohtajan virkaa, johon sisältyi myös seurakunnan orkesterikoulun johtaminen. Työtään Imatran seurakunnassa hän jatkoi joulukuuhun 2012 asti.[2]

Montolan puhallinorkesterin kapellimestarina Haili toimi vuosina 1981-2001. Hänen johdollaan orkesterin toiminta vilkastui merkittävästi kaikilla tavoin. Säännöllinen konserttitoiminta alkoi, ja ohjelmisto laajentui merkittävästi etenkin klassisen sinfonisen puhallinmusiikin suuntaan. Konsertit olivat usein hyvin poikkeavia ohjelmaltaan sen suhteen, mitä soittokunnilta oli totuttu tuohon aikaan kuulemaan. Orkesterin taitotaso kasvoi huimasti, ja konsertteja tehtiin hyvinkin vaativilla ohjelmistoilla. Niinpä nimikin muutettiin soittokunnasta puhallinorkesteriksi.[5]
