Kaarlo Hämäläinen (nimineuvos)

Kaarlo Hämäläinen (21. joulukuuta 1879 Pietari[1] – 13. elokuuta 1951 Mikkeli[2]) oli suomalainen Sulkavan menneisyyden ja kulttuuriperinteen keräämiseen erikoistunut keräilijä ja nimineuvos.[1][3] Hän oli aikanaan yksi Suomen tunnetuimpia muinaisesineiden keräilijöitä.[2]

Kaarlo Hämäläisen Sulkavalla syntynyt isä toimi hopeaseppänä Pietarissa. Hämäläinen työskenteli 1900-luvun alussa Venäjän amiraliteetin karttaosastolla. Hänet yleni kapteeniksi saakka ja sai myös nimineuvoksen arvonimen. Ensimmäisen maailmansodan aikana Hämäläinen toimi muun muassa kuriirina. Venäjän vallankumouksen jälkeen virkansa ja säästönsä menettänyt Hämäläinen palasi isänsä kotipitäjään Sulkavalle. Hän omistautui sitten muinaistutkimukseen ja vanhojen esineiden keräilyyn. [1]

Hämäläinen keräsi kaikkiaan noin 3 000 muinaisesinettä, joista vanhimmat olivat peräisin kivikaudelta. Hän lahjoitti osan esineistä Savonlinnan museoon ja Kansallismuseoon. Hämäläisen toiminnan ansiosta Sulkavalle perustettiin Savupirttimuseo, Linnavuoren alueelle perustettiin luonnonsuojelualue ja Sairalanmäelle pystytettiin Kustaan III:n sodassa kaatuneiden muistomerkki. Hämäläinen kirjoitti myös Savonlinnassa ilmestyneisiin sanomalehtiin käyttäen nimimerkkiä Minor.[1]

Nimineuvos Kaarlo Hämäläisen vuonna 2011 paljastettu muistopatsas sijaitsee Sulkavan kirjaston edustalla.[3]
