Grogi

Kuumasta vedestä ja rommista sekoitettu grogi, jota Suomessa todennäköisimmin kutsuttaisiin totiksi.

Grogi tarkoittaa vedellä väkevästä alkoholijuomasta, kuten viskistä, ginistä, konjakista tai rommista, laimentamalla saatua juomaa. Suomessa ja Ruotsissa grogilla tarkoitetaan yleisesti kylmänä nautittavaa viski- ym. juomaa. Muualla grogilla tarkoitetaan kuuman veden ja sokerin kanssa tarjottavaa rommi-grogia (vrt. suom. toti).

Grogi on saanut nimensä englantilaiselta amiraali Edward Vernonilta (1684–1757), lempinimeltään Old-Grog (grogram-kankaisen takin mukaan), joka määräsi merimiesten päivittäisen rommiannoksen laimennettavaksi vedellä. [1][2] Veden maun peittämiseksi sekoitukseen lisättiin sitrushedelmistä saatua mehua, jolla samalla tietämättä torjuttiin keripukkia.
