Dallas on texasilaisesta Ewingin öljysuvusta kertova yhdysvaltalainen prime time -televisiosarja. Sitä esitettiin Yhdysvalloissa CBS:n kanavalla 2. huhtikuuta 1978 – 3. toukokuuta 1991. Dallasia esitettiin tekstitettynä tai dubattuna 67 kielellä yli 90 maassa.[1] Suomessa Dallasin esittäminen alkoi 2. syyskuuta 1981 ja päättyi 8. marraskuuta 1991.[2]

Dallasin keskushahmo on ahne, juonitteleva ja naisiinmenevä öljyparoni J. R. Ewing, jota esittää Larry Hagman. Hahmon on usein esitetty pohjautuvan joko texasilaiseen öljymiljonääriin H. L. Huntiin tai tämän poikaan Ray Lee Huntiin.[3][4] Sarjan keskeisin tapahtumapaikka on Southforkin hevostila ja sen valkoinen päärakennus terasseineen ja uima-altaineen. Dallasin kaupungissa tapahtumat sijoittuvat usein Ewing Oilin pääkonttorin tiloihin. Ulkokohtauksia Dallasissa on enemmän kuin halvemmissa saippuaoopperoissa. Southfork Ranch on 2000-luvulla sarjan museoitu vierailukohde.

Juonenkäänteitä

Vuonna 1980 Dallas jätti katsojat kahdeksan kuukauden ajaksi odottamaan ratkaisua juonenkäänteeseen, jossa J. R. Ewing joutui ammutuksi. Ampujan henkilöllisyyden paljastanutta jaksoa seurasi yli 83 miljoonaa katsojaa, mikä on suurimpia televisioyleisöjä kautta aikain. Juonikuviota parodioitiin myöhemmin Simpsonit-animaatiosarjan jaksossa ”Kuka ampui johtajan?” vuonna 1995.[5]

Dallasissa on eräs televisiosarjojen tunnetuimmista retconeista: yleisön kaipaama sarjan toinen miespäähenkilö Bobby Ewing palautettiin henkiin muuttamalla sarjan juonta niin, että koko Bobbyn kuoleman sisältänyt tuotantokausi olikin vain hänen entisen vaimonsa, Pamelan, unta.[5][6]
