Dorothy Kathleen Broster (2. syyskuuta 1877 – 7. helmikuuta 1950) oli englantilainen kirjailija.[1][2] Hänen laaja tuotantonsa jakautuu historiallisiin romaaneihin ja yliluonnollisiin kauhunovelleihin.[1][2][3]

Broster syntyi Liverpoolin lähellä ja opiskeli Oxfordin St Hilda’s Collegessa. Ensimmäisen maailmansodan sytyttyä hän ilmoittautui vapaaehtoiseksi ja palveli sairaanhoitajana Ranskassa. Kotiuduttuaan hän sai pestin erään Oxfordin yliopiston professorin sihteerinä. Hänen ensimmäinen romaaninsa Chantemerle julkaistiin 1911, mutta parhaiten hänet tunnetaan jakobiittikapinaa käsittelevästä trilogiastaan The Flight of the Heron (1925), The Gleam in the North (1927) ja The Dark Mile (1929).[4] Sarjan ensimmäinen osa on suomennettu nimellä Kohtalon lintu.[5]

Spekulatiivisen fiktion harrastajien parissa Broster muistetaan novellikokoelmistaan A Fire of Driftwood (1932) ja Couching at the Door (1942). Jälkimmäisen niminovellia ”Vaanija oven edessä” pidetään weird fictionin klassikkona.[6][2] Brosterin yliluonnollisille kertomuksille tyypillinen piirre on arkitodellisuuden ja luonnonlakien särkyminen sekä kosto, joka palauttaa jännitteisen järjestyksen.[2]

Monet aikalaiset luulivat nimikirjaimien taakse kätkeytynyttä kirjailijaa mieheksi.[6] Broster ei vaivautunut korjaamaan väärinkäsitystä.[7]
