Blue Master

Apollo oli suomalainen, Helsingistä kotoisin ollut musiikkiyhtye, jonka ainoaksi jääneen albumin nimi on Apollo (1970). Synkkää, raskastempoista riffimusiikkia esittänyttä Apolloa on pidetty mahdollisesti ensimmäisenä suomalaisena heavy-yhtyeenä. Se otti musiikkiinsa vaikutteita esimerkiksi Led Zeppelinilta ja Steppenwolfilta.[1]

Apollo perustettiin 1969, ja albumi levytettiin toukokuussa 1970, minkä jälkeen yhtye pian hajosi. Yhtyeen keikkaohjelmisto oli hard rock -vaikutteista ja sisälsi paljon Led Zeppelin -covereita, kun taas albumilla on hard rockin lisäksi pop-laulelmaa ja jazzia. Apollo-albumi on julkaistu CD:llä 2002. Albumin lisäksi yhtye julkaisi singlen Pakoon maailmaa / Ohjelmoitu ihminen (1970), jonka B-puolesta julkaistiin albumilla uudelleen sovitettu versio nimellä Hideki Tojo 1884–1948.

Apollon esittämä Led Zeppelin -cover "You Shook Me" löytyy Jee Jee Jee - Suomirockin arkistoaarteita -albumilta.

Yhtye hajosi keväällä 1970, kun basisti Heimo Holopainen lähti suorittamaan asevelvollisuuttaan eikä hänelle löydetty sopivaa seuraajaa. Lisäksi Edward Vesala päätti myöntyä Paroni Paakkunaisen esiintuomaan ajatukseen modernisoitua kansanmusiikkia soittavasta Karelia-yhtyeestä.
