PAL

PAL (lühend inglise fraasist phase alternating line 'faasivaheldusega read') on kõige laiemalt kasutusel olnud värvilise analoogtelevisiooni kolmest standardist (ülejäänud kaks on NTSC ja SECAM). PAL-süsteem töötati välja Telefunkeni firmas ja võeti kõigepealt kasutusele 1967. aastal Saksa Liitvabariigis.

Värvitelevisioonisüsteemide kasutamine maailmas (PAL on sinine)

PAL-süsteem on Ameerika NTSC-süsteemi edasiarendus. NTSC-i puuduseks oli vajadus värvitooni ja värviküllastust aeg-ajalt käsitsi järele häälestada. Selle puuduse kõrvaldamiseks muudetakse PAL-süsteemis televisioonikaadris uuele pildireale üleminekul iga kord signaali faas vastupidiseks (180°); see asjaolu väljendubki süsteemi nimetuses.

Eesti telesaatjad läksid PAL-ile üle 1999. aastal. [1] Enne PAL-süsteemi oli Eestis kasutusel Prantsuse süsteem SECAM (prantsuse k sõnadest Séquentiel couleur avec mémoire ’värvivaheldus koos mäluga'), mis erineb peamiselt punase ja sinise värvikomponendi edastamise meetodi poolest.
