Nunnatorn on Tallinna linnamüüri kaitsetorn, mis asub Toompeast põhjas merepoolsel küljel, tänapäeva Suur-Kloostri ja Väike-Kloostri tänava ristil aadressil Väike-Kloostri 1.

Tallinna linnamüüri tornidest on Nunnatornist põhja pool säilinud Saunatorn. Toompea-poolsesse külge jäi Saunatagune torn, mis on osaliselt säilinud Nunne tänava maja nr 9 sees ja kõrval.[1] Nunne tänaval vastu Toompea nõlva asus Nunnavärav koos eesvärava ja valliväravaga. Need kindlustused lammutati lõplikult 1868. aastal.

Nunnatorn ja Nunnadetagune torn said nime tornist põhja pool asunud tsistertslaste ordu Tallinna Püha Miikaeli nunnakloostri järgi.

Ehituslugu

Nunnatorn (I Nunnatorn) ehitati aastatel 1311–1320 algselt sadultornina.

1422. aastal ehitati senine sadultorn põhjalikult ümber ja kaitsetorn (II Nunnatorn) kujundati hobuserauakujulise põhiplaaniga torniks, mille läbimõõt oli 9,65 m ja kõrgus 24,5 m.

Nunnatorn on ehituselt poolenisti sadultorn: kloostri pool torn maani ei ulatunud, väljaspool linnamüüri asus torni esimesel korrusel laoruum, kus hiljem oli ka püssirohukelder ja viljaladu.

19. sajandi lõpul tehti Riiast pärit arhitekti Wilhelm Neumanni projekti kohaselt läbimurre Nunnatorni ja Saunatorni vahelisse linnamüüri Kloostri tänaval ning ehitati teravatipuline Kloostrivärav, millest kahel pool paiknevad eraldi avad jalakäijate jaoks.

Aastatel 1958–1960 ehitati Nunne torni allossa raudbetoontrepp, mille kaudu pääseb linnamüüri siseküljel asuvasse rekonstrueeritud puidust kaitsekäiku.

Nunnatorni tänapäev

2007. aastal tunnistas Tallinna linnavolikogu Nunnatorni, Saunatorni ja Kuldjala torni ning linnamüüri lõigu Nunnatornist Kuldjala tornini peremehetuks ning määras, et peremeheta linnamüüritornide eest hakkab hoolt kandma Tallinna kultuuriväärtuste amet, analoogselt 2005. aastal peremehetuks ehitiseks tunnistatud Köismäe, Plate, Eppingi ja Grusbeke-taguste tornide ning nendevaheliste linnamüürilõikudega.

1. novembrist 2009 anti Nunnatorn, Saunatorn ja Kuldjala torn tähtajatult üürile mittetulundusühingule Tallinna Noorteklubi Kodulinn.

Nunnatorni idaküljega kokku ehitatud, insener Arthur von Hoyningen-Huene[2] projekteeritud ja 1902. aastal valminud uusgooti stiilis hoones aadressil Suur-Kloostri 11a, kus asuvad Eesti Kunstiakadeemia kunstikultuuri teaduskonna kunstipedagoogika, muinsuskaitse ja restaureerimise, rahvakunsti ja kultuuriantropoloogia õppetool ning kunstiteaduste instituut.
