Morning Musume on pikaajaline tüdrukutebänd, kellele kuulub enim edetabeli esikümne singleid tootnud Jaapani muusikute rekord.

Iidol (アイドル aidoru) on tänapäeva Jaapani kultuuris teismeline või kahekümnendates eluaastates meediastaar, keda arvukad fännid peavad võluvaks või nunnuks ja kes esineb kuude või aastate kaupa regulaarselt massimeedias. Näiteks võivad iidolite hulka kuuluda lauljad, näitlejad, telestaarid (nn "talendid"), modellid jne. Enamasti (kuid mitte alati) on iidolid naissoost. Iidoliks ei peeta siiski iga noort staari ning mässaja kuvandiga staarid, näiteks rokkmuusikud, protestivad tihti ise "iidoli" nimetuse vastu.

Iidolite fenomen sai alguse 1970. aastate algul, peegeldades 1963. aasta Prantsuse filmis "Cherchez l'idole" osalenud muusiku Sylvie Vartani populaarsuslainet Jaapanis, kus film linastus 1964. aasta novembris pealkirjaga アイドルを探せ ("Aidoru wo sagase"). Iidoliks hakati kutsuma nunnu välimusega näitlejaid ja lauljaid. Staarideks hakkasid saama teismelised tüdrukud vanuses 14-16 ja poisid vanuses 15-18. Üks neist, Momoe Yamaguchi, oli suur staar, kuni ta 1980. aastal abiellus ja avalikest esinemistest loobus. Iidolid domineerisid Jaapani popmuusikas 1980. aastatel, mida nimetatakse "Jaapani iidolite kuldajaks".
