Jimbo in Austin

I have recently become aware that Jimbo Wales is going to be in Austin for SXSW in 2006. Would this be the appropriate place to plan a WikiMeetup in Austin with him, if he were interested? -Scm83x 11:45, 18 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

Definitely. I can even help set this up as I'll be at SXSW Interactive myself. jareha 18:32, 18 December 2005 (UTC)Reply
Is SXSW free? I don't think many Wikipedia users would want to pay a couple hundred bucks to get in! I wanna see Jimbo, but not that much!!-Scm83x 20:41, 18 December 2005 (UTC)Reply
We can meetup for free at a restaurant or such somewhere close to the SXSW Interactive Conference (held at the Austin Convention Center). Lots of groups do this during SXSWeek. jareha 03:06, 19 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

Joynes Reading Room

In the Honors Quad, there is the possibility that we could borrow a room with a projector. — Scm83x talk

Not sure I've been in the Joynes Reading Room; or if I have I wasn't aware of that name. Which dorm is it in? jareha 07:09, 27 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

Calendar

Scm83x, it may (for clarity) help to cut down your signature inside the calendar to just your username. jareha 07:27, 27 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

Ya, sry, I just signed ~~~ — Scm83x talk 07:29, 27 January 2006 (UTC)Reply
Yeah, don't get me wrong — I'm all about the Hook 'em! Just the calendar was looking a bit cramped and the code rather unwieldy. jareha 07:38, 27 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

Late Feb/Early March

I am aiming for March 4th February 25th, or the week thereafter, for our next meetup. How does this sound to everyone? — Scm83x talk

  1. The fourth 25th will work fine for me, as far as I know. — Scm83x talk
  2. February 25th sounds good to me. jareha

I'm going to make a post to the Austin Bloggers Meta-Blog about this later today — as I imagine there's crossover. I'll also share a calendar (iCal) so folks can subscribe to the meetup schedule. jareha 02:38, 5 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Split suggested

I think we could split this meetup up by date, so each meetup will have its own corresponding discussion page. We can also create a Wikipedia:Meetup/Austin/Upcoming page for the meetup being planned; when a date is set, it can then be moved to that date. What do you all think of this idea? jareha 04:36, 5 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

My reasoning for this is to seperate general meetup discussions from those only pertinent to a specific day. jareha 04:48, 5 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

So, is there another one coming up?

I'm from Spring and go to SHSU, so I'm somewhat close by. —User:ACupOfCoffee@ 03:47, 29 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Yea, I think we should meet again. What is your schedule like, Cup? — Scm83x hook 'em 04:38, 29 March 2006 (UTC)Reply
Pick a weekend, any weekend until finals start in May. Rats, finals start May 8th! Oh, except April 21-23, and Easter weekend. —User:ACupOfCoffee@ 07:54, 29 March 2006 (UTC)Reply
How about the last weekend in April? Microtonal 16:05, 29 March 2006 (UTC)Reply
I have no problem with that. —User:ACupOfCoffee@ 16:47, 29 March 2006 (UTC)Reply
The patio by the Wendy's in the Union worked pretty well last time. Pending approval by the other guys, what say we meet at 3:00pm on the patio on 29 April? Microtonal 21:59, 29 March 2006 (UTC)Reply
We might want to meet somewhere less University-centric this time. That said, I can't make it on April 29, 2006. jareha (comments) 22:06, 29 March 2006 (UTC)Reply
I suppose these ought to be planned farther in advance. August? —User:ACupOfCoffee@ 06:54, 2 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

New Austin userbox

I've created a new userbox and category for wikipedians in Austin. Simply add {{user Austin}} to your user page and you'll be added to Category:Wikipedians in Austin automatically. If more people do that, then it may be easier to notify people of upcoming meetups. -- Bovineone 01:16, 5 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Wiki Loves Pride

Are there any Austin residents interested in participating in Wiki Loves Pride 2014, a multi-national effort to improve coverage of LGBT-related content at Wikimedia projects? Perhaps an edit-a-thon or a photography project? Please visit the project page for details or let me know if you have any questions. Thanks! --Another Believer (Talk) 17:29, 13 May 2014 (UTC)Reply

SxSW 2019

I'll be in Austin for South by Southwest 2019 and I'd love to organize a meetup while I'm there. Any suggestions for how to pull an event together? I was thinking a breakfast on Saturday 9 March somewhere on South Congress. --ESP (talk)
