Introduction to contentious topics

You have recently edited a page related to the Arab–Israeli conflict, a topic designated as contentious. This is a brief introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.

A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia's norms and policies are more strictly enforced, and Wikipedia administrators have an expanded level of powers and discretion in order to reduce disruption to the project.

Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:

Additionally, you must be logged in, have 500 edits, and have an account age of 30 days, and you are not allowed to make more than 1 revert within 24 hours on any page within this topic.

Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics procedures, you may ask them at the arbitration clerks' noticeboard or you may learn more about this contentious topic. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the {{Ctopics/aware}} template.

Speedy deletion nomination of Category:Conservative media in Croatia

A tag has been placed on Category:Conservative media in Croatia indicating that it is currently empty, and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion. If it remains empty for seven days or more, it may be deleted under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and removing the speedy deletion tag. Liz Read! Talk! 01:25, 18 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

Information icon Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, articles should not be moved, as you did to Noah Botić, without good reason. They should have a name that is both accurate and intuitive. Wikipedia has some guidelines in place to help with this. Generally, a page should only be moved to a new title if the current name does not follow these guidelines. Also, if a page move is being discussed, consensus needs to be reached before anybody moves the page. If you would like to experiment with page titles and moving, please use the test Wikipedia. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you. Mattythewhite (talk) 17:34, 30 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of Jan Koutný

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Jan Koutný requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G14 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is:

  • a disambiguation page with a title ending in "(disambiguation)" which lists only one extant Wikipedia page (i.e., there is a primary topic);
  • a disambiguation page that lists zero extant Wikipedia pages, regardless of its title; or
  • a redirect with a title ending in "(disambiguation)" whose target is neither a disambiguation page nor page that has a disambiguation-like function.

Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such pages may be deleted at any time. Please see the disambiguation page guidelines for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and removing the speedy deletion tag.

Information icon Hello, I'm Jolielover. I noticed that you added or changed content in an article, Palm Beach Pete, but you didn't provide a reliable source. On Wikipedia, it's important that article content be verifiable. If you'd like to resubmit your change with a citation, your edit is archived in the page history. If you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. jolielover♥talk 15:17, 7 July 2026 (UTC)Reply

Information icon Please do not add or change content, as you did at Palm Beach Pete, without citing a reliable source. Please review the guidelines at Wikipedia:Citing sources to see how to add references to an article. TMZ should avoid being used for controversial statements about living persons, and is not a reliable source. jolielover♥talk 04:04, 8 July 2026 (UTC)Reply

Information icon Hi, I noticed that you added content at Montreal but didn't provide a reliable source. On Wikipedia, it's important that article content be verifiable with reliable sources. If you'd like to resubmit your change with a citation, your edit is archived in the page history. However, note that inclusion in the lead is dictated by due weight, so if this name is not commonly used, it should be put in a lower section instead of the lead. — W.andrea (talk) 18:18, 30 July 2026 (UTC)Reply

Same for Halifax, Nova Scotia (the Gaelic edit). — W.andrea (talk) 20:10, 30 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
My bad! Your edit on Montreal in fact did include a source. I must have missed it. However, my points about undue weight and Halifax still stand. — W.andrea (talk) 18:18, 31 July 2026 (UTC)Reply

Mi'kmaq names for communities

Hi, Schestos. First off, well done for adding indigenous names to New Brunswick communities. However, the native_name attribute in the infobox is meant for an official name used by the locals, like München for Munich in Germany. G. Timothy Walton (talk) 11:49, 30 July 2026 (UTC)Reply

So only use them in the body? Okay. I would like to ask though: where is the line drawn? If, say, 10% of a town speaks X language, is that enough? Schestos (talk) 12:37, 30 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
That's a good question. There have been discussions about it on one of the project pages; Wikipedia:WikiProject New Brunswick is probably a good place to ask where to find the discussion. I'd guess whether it appears on a government sign might a good rough guideline for now. G. Timothy Walton (talk) 13:04, 30 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
Okay, thanks! Schestos (talk) 13:09, 30 July 2026 (UTC)Reply

Please stop

Please stop adding Indian names to ever city and town in Canada, per MOS:FIRST and MOS:LEADLANG. Just because you can find a translated name for the place, does not mean it needs to be added to the community. If there was a significant presence of Indians in the community, add it to the history section. Thanks. Magnolia677 (talk) 13:35, 30 July 2026 (UTC)Reply

It's relevant because that was the original language spoken in the area. I purposely only added Mi'kmaq names to Mi'kmaq towns, not "Indian [sic] names to ever [sic] city and town in Canada". Schestos (talk) 13:48, 30 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
Multiple editors have reverted you. Please read the room. Magnolia677 (talk) 13:57, 30 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
Why are my edits always exceptions to longstanding standards? Look at several other articles and the indigenous names are there. The info is encyclopaedic and I don't see why they shouldn't be included. Schestos (talk) 14:07, 30 July 2026 (UTC)Reply

July 2026 - edit war

Stop icon You appear to be engaged in an edit war at Shubenacadie, Nova Scotia. An edit war occurs when editors who disagree about the content of a page repeatedly revert each other's changes. Please do not revert or undo the edits made by other editors when your changes are reverted. Instead, use the talk page to discuss how the page can represent consensus among the editors involved. Here is some advice on how to do this. If discussions get stuck, you can request a third opinion, ask for help at a relevant noticeboard, or seek dispute resolution.

Edit warring can result in being blocked from editing, especially if you violate the three-revert rule, which states that an editor must not perform more than three reverts within 24 hours on one page. Undoing any other editor's work, in whole or in part, involving the same or different material, is a revert. You can still be blocked for edit warring even if you do not violate the three-revert rule should your behavior indicate that you intend to continue reverting repeatedly.
Please stop your disruptive editing. Magnolia677 (talk) 14:13, 30 July 2026 (UTC)Reply

Stop

Please stop adding links to wikidata when there is no single entry on any wiki. Wrote a edit summary but you keep on adding it. Kante4 (talk) 15:08, 8 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

My apologies, I didn't see. I'll stop adding Wikidata links. Schestos (talk) 15:09, 8 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Kante4 The user did not stop ... they keep adding unnecessary links ... Pindrice (talk) 15:28, 8 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
No, the Wikidata links are the ones I was told to remove. If the article exists in another language it's helpful to include so a potential creator can use it as a guide. Schestos (talk) 15:30, 8 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
Tbh (as said in edit summary) i do not think the other language links are needed (but allowed i assume). Same to link every referee, not sure how many would be notable to even have a redlink. Kante4 (talk) 15:46, 8 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
It's quite helpful to link to other Wikipedias. I create a lot of articles and if one has an article on another wiki I find it much easier to create an article on here because it lists important info with sources. For the referees, most have Wikidata items and some even have articles on other Wikipedias (the German Wikipedia seems to have a few) so I don't see why linking them hurts. Schestos (talk) 15:49, 8 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
I agree with you @Kante4, to me all that the things that the user Schestos is adding is useless : only links for referee that have Wikipedia page, and all the links for Wikipedia in other languages are useless Pindrice (talk) 15:50, 8 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
Why are they useless? The template exists for a reason. Schestos (talk) 15:52, 8 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
Side with Pindrice here, don't like the links to other wikis (but thats just a personal thing). Having 60 redlinked referees is also just not needed. Also, why not edit the whole mini-tournament instead of doing three edits section by section for each tournament. Kante4 (talk) 15:56, 8 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
Yeah I've started editing the whole mini-tournament at once. Schestos (talk) 15:59, 8 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
